"Transplantation Immunity" Research Team

Founded by Professor Wu Jun, who studied in Italy and came back in 1995, this research group mainly concentrates on researching wound repair and transplantation immunity, and there are two functional research laboratories under the group, namely, Chongqing key laboratory of disease proteomics and the biomaterial laboratory. Currently, there are 9 regular workers, among whom, 3 have high professional title, 3 have medium-grade professional title and 3 are primary laboratory technicians. Among the group members, 6 are graduates returned from abroad, of whom, 2 are doctorial tutors, and 3 are postgraduate tutors. At present, there are 8 postgraduates and 6 doctoral students.

 In the past five years, the group got 2 national 863 projects, 1 special project of apparatus from the National Natural Science Foundation, 8 general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation or youth fund and 9 military and Chongqing provincial projects with scientific research funds totaled more than RMB 30 million.

 The group has published over 300 papers as the first or corresponding author, including more than 50 articles in foreign SCI magazines and with the highest impact factor point being 8.91. Won 28 authorized patents, among which, 13 are patents for invention and 15 patents for utility models. And has cultivated more than 40 doctoral students and postgraduates.

 Now, the group mainly concentrates on researching burn wound healing and cicatrization mechanism, precise diagnosis of burn wound and automatic precision debridement, the application of stem cell, biomaterial and tissue engineered skin in wound repair, the function of γδT cells in skin grafting and wound repair, etc. The group builds itself upon the combination of fundamental research with translational medicine and has successfully transformed 5 scientific research achievements with the amount exceeding RMB 40 million.

“Burn Infection” Research Team

    The team has long been devoting itself to researches on clinical and basic projects related to burn infection. Currently, its main research fields include research on sepsis prevention and treatment after severe burn, research on the prevention and treatment of gut derived infection after severe burn and research on respiratory tract inflammation/infection mechanism upon burn wound and inhalation injury. Established in the 1970s, the team started from scratch, worked hard and made glorious achievements under the leadership and care of Xiao Guangxia, Wang Dewang, Zhang Yaping and other specialists and professors of the older generation. Over the years, the team totally published more than 300 articles, including over 100 SCI papers; got more than 30 national and military (provincial) projects and 20 national and military (provincial) awards.

There are 9 regular workers, among whom, 2 have high professional title, 4 have medium-grade professional title and 3 are primary laboratory technicians. With Peng Yizhi (professor and chief physician) as the academic leader, the team members include Yuan Zhiqiang (associate professor and associate chief physician), Ma Siyuan (lecturer and attending doctor), Chen Jing (lecturer and assistant researcher), Chen Yu (supervising technician), Gong Yali (supervising technician), Chen Yajie (junior technician), Luo Xiaoqiang (junior technician) and Zhang Cheng (junior technician). The team has domestic first-class microbiological lab to provide powerful support for the project work as well as diagnosis and treatment of patients with clinical burn infection.

“Burn Metabolism Nutrition” Research Team

In the Institute  of Burn Research, the Metabolism Nutrition Research Team is made up of 4 professors, 2 technicians and 8 postgraduates. Professor Peng Xi is the team leader, Professor Wang Fengjun and Assistant Professor Yan Hong as deputy leader, and Professor Wang Shiliang as academic adviser. Its main research fields include: basic and clinical research on burn metabonomics; hypermetabolism after burn and the control measures; basic and clinical research on specific nutrient; intestinal mucosal barrier damage repair and anaerobic metabolism mechanism & regulation and other aspects.

After years of exploration and accumulation, the team has made plentiful and substantial achievements in such aspects as basic and clinical research on burn metabolism nutrition and digestive duct injury & the control measure and main academic achievements as follows: ① Won 6 technology rewards from various levels, that is, one 2nd class reward of national technology progress, one 1st class reward of military technology progress, three 2nd class rewards of military technology progress and one reward for major achievements in logistics science and technology of the whole army. ② Obtained 23 scientific research projects approved, including one 973 subproject, one national project for major new medicine development, 11 projects of National Natural Science Foundation and 10 military and Chongqing Municipal projects. ③ Published more than 300 scientific research papers, among which, over 30 are SCI papers with the highest impact factor point as 12.35; acted as chief or associate editor of 11 monographs and participated in the compilation of 18 monographs. ④ Got 1 national new drug certificate and 3 authorized patents for invention with 6 applied. ⑤ 2 master's theses are rated as excellence in Chongqing.

“Biophysics and Wound Healing” Research Team

The research team established under the suggestion of Wu Jun, the head of the Institute of Burn Research, plans to integrate the technology strength of reparative regeneration medicine, engineering physics, biomaterials science and other disciplines through the advantages of multidisciplinary cooperation so as to focus on carrying out the basic and clinical research on the application of the biophysical mechanism related to wound healing and the new biophysical technology in wound healing and regeneration, establish the new theory and technology of biophysics and reparative regeneration and promote the clinical transformation and application. At present, key research directions include optical technology and wound diagnosis and treatment, mechanical technology and tissue remodeling, electric field technology and reparative regeneration, etc.

In recent years, the “biophysics and wound healing” research team, as a newly-established scientific research team, has carried out the fruitful scientific research cooperation with the Institute of Fluid Physics of CAEP, University of Manitoba, University of California, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other scientific research institutions, obtained more than 10 projects including special instrument projects of National Natural Science Foundation, key projects of National Natural Science Foundation, general projects of National Natural Science Foundation, sub-projects of National “973” Project, military projects and projects at the provincial and ministerial level or above, published more than 30 SCI papers, developed the first spectral imager for burn wound depth diagnosis, and taken the lead in establishing the Biophysics and Reparative Regeneration Branch CPAM.

At present, the research team has 13 employees, including 3 employees (Wu Jun, Luo Xiangdong, Zhang Jiaping) with the title of a senior professional post, 1 employee (Yin Meifang) with the title of an intermediate professional post, 4 employees with a doctoral degree and 5 employees with a master degree.

"Burn Rehabilitation" Research team

 To adapt to the changes of modern medical model and meet the needs of recovering patients’ physical and mental functions, our department explored and practiced burn rehabilitation from 2001. From the initial passive limb movement for patients with post-burn by two rehabilitation nurses, it gradually develops into a scale rehabilitation team capable of providing comprehensive treatment for patients with burns at various stages, including kinesitherapy, physical factor therapy, occupational therapy (including daily rehabilitation guidance, pressure therapy, orthotic brace production, burned skin recovery treatment and scar comprehensive treatment).

 Currently, the team totally has 11 rehabilitation therapists and 2 rehabilitation nurses. In recent years, it maintains close exchange and cooperation with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The University of Sydney, University of the Pacific, University of Manitoba, Canada, Taiwan Chang Geng Memorial Hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Guangdong Provincial Work Injury Rehabilitation Center, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Wuhan Third People's Hospital and other domestic and foreign units, and built “Sino-Canadian Burn Recovery and Reconstruction Center” by cooperating with the University of Manitoba Medical School; in order to improve the level of our department in burn rehabilitation, many experts come to our department for teaching and guidance occasionally, hoping to help patients recover the maximum functions, achieve self care and return to the society through early, comprehensive and professional burn rehabilitation.
